Young, Adrienne. (2022). Spells for Forgetting. Delacorte Press.

On the remote island of Saoirse, the past is never far away. In Spells for Forgetting, Adrienne Young combines mystery, magic, and a slow-burn romance in a suspenseful story filled with long-held secrets and unanswered questions. The return of August Salt fourteen years after the mysterious death of Lily Morgan brings old memories and buried tensions back to the surface. The story follow as the island’s close-knit community begins to unravel. Young’s atmospheric storytelling and gradual build make the island’s secrets difficult to leave behind.
The adrenaline genre is not typically the first category I turn to when choosing a book, but I can appreciate its appeal. These books create a sense of anticipation by leaving questions unanswered and encouraging readers to keep reading to discover what happens next. The genre includes a range of fiction, from mysteries and thrillers to horror, fantasy, and romance. This variety is one of its strengths, as readers can experience suspense without necessarily seeking out a traditional thriller. Book displays are a great way to promote a certain type of book and I find they often work on me. To promote the adrenaline genre, libraries could create attention-grabbing displays based on specific popular tropes or seasonal “vibes.” Displays like “Reads for Longer Nights” or “Slow Burn, High Stakes” could appeal to regular adrenaline readers while also catching the attention of readers who do not typically gravitate toward the genre.
